On Friday, June 23, SJHCG received communication from the Ministry of Long-Term Care (MLTC) regarding changes to the COVID-19 response measures. As with all changes to the MLTC guidance we have received throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the leadership team has reviewed the updated document and has determined how to safely implement these changes for our residents, staff, physicians, volunteers and visitors.

We continue to have robust Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) measures in place.  Each of these measures work together as layers of protection for everyone in the Health Centre. We will continue to collaborate and follow the recommendations from Public Health to ensure the safety of all of our staff, residents and families. In outbreak situations, or if a resident is placed in isolation, all individuals are required to comply with requirements as directed by the Outbreak Management Team and Public Health.

Based on the changes brought forward by the MLTC, the following changes are being implemented at SJHCG:

1. MASKING

As of June 29, 2023, all staff, physicians, students, volunteers, support workers, caregivers and visitors will no longer be required to wear a mask when entering the Health Centre.

MASK FRIENDLY POLICY

  • We will continue to support staff and visitors who prefer to continue to wear a mask. Masks will continue to be available in the front lobby and accessible in the neighbourhoods. Any individual who prefers to wear a mask will be required to wear a SJHCG mask.
  • Residents and/or their Substitute Decision Makers (SDM) may request that staff wear a mask to perform direct care. A mask provided by SJHCG is to be worn and this request will be documented in the resident’s plan of care to ensure all caregivers are aware of this request.

2. PHYSICAL DISTANCING

Physical distancing is no longer required during staff and resident interactions.  Staff will continue to be respectful of physical distance if requested by another individual involved in an activity or program.

3. HEALTH CENTRE ACCESS

The main entrance will continue to be the primary entry and exit point of the Health Centre. Access to enter and exit through the North Building Entrance will not be granted at this time.

All individuals are reminded to complete the Respiratory Screening Questionnaire posted in the main lobby before proceeding to visit their loved one.

4. CAFETERIA ACCESS

Effective July 11, visitors and residents will once again be able to visit the cafeteria to enjoy a meal together.  Please note, the cafeteria only accepts cash for purchases.

5. SILVER MAPLE GIFT SHOP: PURCHASING FOOD

With the opening of the cafeteria to visitors on July 11, everyone will be able to purchase food from the Silver Maple Gift Shop and enjoy their purchases anywhere within the Health Centre. Please note, the gift shop is run by volunteers and your patience is appreciated.

6. FAMILY ROOM BOOKINGS

Leadership is working to review all of our processes for families booking spaces and rooms for events. Communications will be provided once these processes have been finalized.

We look forward to seeing all of the smiling faces around the Health Centre and welcoming you back into the cafeteria.
