Ethics Committee
From time to time, clients, their families, and healthcare providers are faced with difficult medical and quality of life choices involving moral values, beliefs, traditions, and preferences. Ethics in healthcare is the rational examination of what constitutes ‘right’ and ‘wrong’; the human, legal, and moral rights that we have; and the associated obligations that healthcare professionals have to their patients.
Through its Ethics Committee, St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph (SJHCG) is committed to assisting the SJHCG community in developing an understanding of ethical issues and enhancing decision-making skills.
Guelph Youth Farm
We reach beyond our traditional healthcare provider role and look for opportunities to partner with our community to support health and wellbeing. Innovative initiatives, such as our partnership with The SEED food project and its Guelph Youth Farm, not only enrich the high-quality care we provide, but also allow us to make the most efficient use of our resources while giving back to our community.
In partnership with Guelph Community Health Centre’s The SEED food project and Everdale Teaching Farm, St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph (SJHCG) supports the food project by providing the quarter-acre plot of land for the Guelph Youth farm. Through the Local Food Jobs program, young adults grow and sell organic produce and learn about urban farming, leadership, and food literacy.
Clients of SJHCG can take advantage of activities that strengthen gross and fine motor skills and incorporate horticultural therapy in an innovative way. They can interact with the land, build new friendships with youth, and connect with the community.
Hair Care Centre
Forever Young Hair Care Group has been operating the Hair Salon at St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph since the fall of 2017.
Forever Young is committed to providing an excellent salon experience and offers products and scheduling services to our clients. Billing is through residents’ trust accounts and/or direct billing to clients or clients’ families.
Forever Young has provided hair care services for residents in seniors’ homes, nursing homes, long term care homes, and hospitals in Montreal for over 50 years. They expanded the operation to Southern Ontario 15 years ago and are presently contracted to provide services to over 80 senior’s facilities including Hamilton Health Sciences (St. Peter’s Site) and Grand River Hospital (Freeport Site).

Library
In partnership with Recreation Therapy, St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph (SJHCG) is happy to offer clients, their families, staff, and volunteers access to library materials.
Our librarian is available to provide support to clients in their search for materials and resources, and will arrange assessments to ensure that clients have access to the material and information they want in formats that, as much as possible, suit their individual needs.
There are designated computers available to clients throughout the Health Centre for accessing the Internet to learn more about health issues.
Additionally, each neighbourhood (unit), keeps a collection of material on hand that can be borrowed, and the Guelph Public Library Bookmobile visits SJHCG once per week.
Note: Our library, formerly located on Level 1, is currently undergoing repairs. In the meantime, books can be accessed by clients, families, staff, and volunteers in the North and Main Lobbies. We appreciate your patience as this work is completed.
