What Do We Do?
St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph (SJHCG) is a leader in providing outstanding health care and support to our clients, their families, and the broader community we serve. We offer a wide range of services, including Long Term Care, Complex Medical Care, Palliative Care, Rehabilitation, and Outpatient Services. We also provide Community Support Services designed for individuals with dementia, acquired brain injury, conditions that contribute to frailty, and those who require support to remain in their home so they can continue to be an active member in the community.

What Do I Need to Work at SJHCG?
Please see below to help you understand what is required, prior to commencing work, if you are selected for employment with SJHCG. These requirements may take 3-4 weeks to meet, so starting early reduces delays.
Pre-Employment Background Checks: As part of our commitment to providing a secure and safe environment for our employees and those we serve, we require pre-employment background checks. Which typically include:
- Vulnerable Sectors Check (VSC): We’ll need a recent police check to verify your criminal history. This helps us maintain a safe and trusted workplace. The Health Centre accepts only VSC dated within the 6-month period prior to the date of employment. Any costs for these documents are borne by the candidate.
- Reference Checks: We may contact your references to gather insights into your professional background and qualifications.
Immunizations and Health Assessments: Health and Safety are paramount in our line of work. Healthcare employees are at risk of exposure to communicable diseases because of their contact with clients and their environment. A full immunization history and up-to-date immunity is required from each employee at the time of the Occupational Health Assessment.
- Complete Pre-Placement Medical Form
- COVID-19 Vaccination
- Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and show proof of full vaccination prior to their start date. Subject to any obligations SJHCG has under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
- Tuberculin testing:
- Documented history of a two-step, and a one-step if two-step has not been done within the last 12 months.
- Immunizations/immunity form:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – two doses of vaccine OR lab evidence of immunity
- Varicella – two doses of vaccine OR lab evidence of immunity
- Hepatitis B – vaccine and lab evidence of immunity (series must at least be initiated)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria – immunization required within past 10 years
- Influenza – this is preferred but not mandatory
Orientation and Training: Once you’ve met the pre-placement requirements, we’ll provide you with an orientation program to help you get acquainted with our organization, policies, and procedures.
Right to Work Documentation: You’ll need to provide valid documentation that verifies your right to work in Canada.
Banking and Payroll Information: We’ll require your banking details to facilitate direct deposit for your salary. Your payroll information ensures you receive timely payments.
Necessary Licenses: If your role requires specific licenses, please ensure you have these in order before you start.
Uniforms or Dress Code: Depending on your role, we may have specific requirements for uniform or dress code and footwear. Be prepared to comply with these guidelines.
Personal Identification: Bring personal identification, such as a driver’s license or passport, during your onboarding to verify your identity.
Credential Verification: To confirm your qualifications and certifications, we may request copies of relevant documents, diplomas, licenses, or professional certifications.
