Physiatry

Physiatry is a field of physical medicine involving the diagnosis and treatment of injuries or diseases affecting the body's muscles, bones and nerves including such conditions as carpal tunnel syndrome, amputations, neck and back pain.

To facilitate this service, St. Joseph's offers a lab for electromyographic (EMG) examinations which record nerve conduction to rule out nerve entrapment (like carpal tunnel) and disease.  It also analyzes the electric activity in selected muscles to determine the presence or extent of disorders.

In addition, our physiatrists provide clinical services in othotics (shoe inserts), amputee and prothetic care, osteoarthritis, and in-patient consultation for musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.
